This year our team over in Germany organised their fourth "Solution & Technology Day". An event packed with brand new technologies and presentations, attendance continues to grow on a yearly basis and has been a great success!
This year's main attraction was the Boston and CoolIT Systems™ cluster configuration. The system broke the LINPACK record at ISC 2015 in Frankfurt, for the second year in a row. The benchmark is currently a score of 10.78Tflops that translated into an energy efficient 3.59 Tflops/kW. Boston have achieved an estimated rank of #6 on the Green500, a list of the most energy efficient supercomputers in the world.
Another milestone was the hyper converged solution of teuto.net, a long standing customer and development partner of Boston Germany. Teuto.net developed their own cloud stack based on open-source software, OpenStack. The underlying hardware is a brand new Supermicro® server based on the Intel® Xeon® processor D-1540 (8-Core) System-on-Chip.
Hyper-convergence was another key focus of the event. The keynote was held by Wolfgang Stief, technology scout and storage expert of sys4 AG. He spoke about the potential of this emerging technology and the advantages for datacenter environments. His presentation was followed by a demonstration by teuto.net in which they covered their hyper-converged system.
Georg Klauser, Managing Director of Boston Germany, also gave an update on the latest Supermicro® and Boston solutions followed by HELIUM V, a software vendor who develops ERP software and distributes fully configured ERP servers for the SMB market based on BOSTONs mini PC series called "Albatross".
