On Boston' booth at this year's CeBIT in Hanover, Boston announced a new solution that leverages commodity hardware to deliver Citrix XenDesktop 7-based VDI for less than $500 per user. The solution was a result of collaboration between Citrix and Boston engineers who wanted to answer the question: 'Can VDI have a lower or equivalent TCO when compared to the traditional approach of using physical desktop PCs?' the answer was a resounding yes! Commodity hardware enables the delivery of the required network, storage and server resources to less than $125 per user, bringing the ultimate cost of VDI delivery under the $500 per user figure.
Along with having the solution on display at CeBIT (Stand #B39, Hall 2) Boston also launched a whitepaper, Cost Efficient VDI: XenDesktop 7 on Commodity Hardware, that explains how the solution achieves the goal of delivering an enterprise-class VDI solution that maintains the cost-per-user at levels comparable to traditional desktop delivery methods.
As well as working closely with Citrix, Boston also used enterprise-class hardware from Mellanox, SanDisk and Supermicro to ensure a quality solution that was up to the task. Thanks to all the partners involved and congratulations to the engineers that helped develop the solution.
