Boston's Head of HPC David Power Introduces World's First ARM Cloud at IP EXPO 2013

Posted on 02 October, 2013

David Power, Boston's Head of HPC, will be speaking to attendees at IP EXPO 2013 about Boston's part in the latest ARM®-based innovation - the world's first cloud based ARM-as-a-Service (AaaS) platform.

Building on last year's work with Calxeda to launch the World's first ARM-based server, the Boston Viridis, Boston has been a key partner in developing an AaaS platform that enables easy access to ARM server hardware for experimentation, testing and development. David will be discussing why the AaaS platform comes to the rescue of those demanding ultra-low power computing in their datacentre, but are unsure of how to take a step away from the x86 architecture.

David will address the importance of the relationships developed with other organisations dedicated to lowering the barrier of entry to innovative technology. Two partnering organisations supporting the AaaS platform were Ellexus and Eltechs: Ellexus delivering their BREEZE software tracing tool and Eltechs their binary translation technology. David will be talking about how technology from Ellexus and Eltechs helps users of the AaaS platform get started as quickly as possible - the key to benefitting from new technology is getting to grips with it as early as possible.

David will also offer a preview into "the future of storage" - Ceph's Reliable Autonomic Distributed Object Store (RADOS) running on the Viridis Microserver, powered by Calxeda.

Here are the details you need to catch David's presentation

  • What? AaaS: The World's First ARM Cloud
  • Where? Storage Theatre (IP EXPO, Earls Court 2)
  • When? 14:30 - 15:00, 16th October 2013
