Shell Foundation in India

This foundation aims to combat global poverty and challenges related to energy and gloablisation. Their approach is to apply market principles and business DNA figure out solutions. This 'more than money' appraoch sets the Shell Foundation apart from other foundations.

It was established by Royal Dutch Shell in 2000 to catalyse sustainable and scalable solutions for global development. Business thinking is applied to many issues, be it social or environmental, all related to the energy industry.

One example of their efforts: the Shell Foundation has been working on a clean alternative to heat cookstoves since 2002. The reason behing this is that almost half of India's citisens use open fires or traditional methods of cooking. This reuslt in nearly half-a-million deaths each year, on top of impacting climate change.
