Storage

Their storage products comprise the industry's broadest portfolio of silicon and software solutions, with new innovations such as solid state storage and 6Gb/s SAS Switch building on Avago's legacy of first-to-market traditions. The Avago family of SAS products includes RAID on Chip, host-bus adapters, RAID controller cards, and advanced software.

Avago`s Syncro product line is now available in a SAS3 (12Gbit/s) flavour, supporting the latest generation of SAS hard disk and SSD's.

This update provides more native bandwidth for HA-DAS and opens up a significantly greater performance scope, which is becoming more and more essential when looking towards flash based storage solutions.

Syncro high availability direct-attached storage technology (HA-DAS) functions in a truly active/active configuration enabling the best level of performance and availability possible

Both controllers can therefore be carrying out read & write operations to the same volumes through the use of intelligent resource load balancing. Intercommunication is handled directly across the SAS bus, enabling low latency and reliable controller synchronisation. Additionally the SAS bus is used for heart beating, enabling confidence in the event of a failover scenario.

For example, in the event of one system going down for maintenance, a message is logged to the other head node and remaining controller is aware this has occurred and can take appropriate action to ensure the volumes remain online. If an unexpected failure occurs however, the heartbeat process stops, and the still functioning controller can use a series of quorum devices to ascertain the best course of action, typically to take ownership of the volumes from its peer to ensure availability.

By using Avago's HA-DAS and Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, the Boston Syncro Series is designed to provide continuous application uptime at a fraction of the cost and complexity of traditional cluster solutions based on Fibre Channel or iSCSI storage.

The Boston IIS Syncro Series

Based on Windows Server 2012 R2, Boston Syncro Series products are fully redundant yet simple to administer high availability platforms, especially so for administrators already familiar with other Microsoft products. The high-performance cluster nodes are configured to share a common JBOD for backend data storage, eliminating the need for the implementation of a costly shared SAN environment.

Customers can choose between various backend JBOD configurations, including SSD disk shelves, a 2U 24x bay JBOD, or Supermicro's double sided 45x bay SAS JBOD for maximum storage density.

While Syncro and Windows Server 2012 R2 clustered services provide a powerful HA-DAS platform for windows users. Syncro can provide fast simple HA-DAS to any linux based distribution which supports the driver set and management software.
