IBM Storage Supports NVIDIA DGX A100 Systems

Posted on 14 September, 2021

Designed as a scalable unit that can be scaled expanded to meet growing business and research needs, the IBM Storage IBM Spectrum Scale with NVIDIA DGX A100 systems supports organisations looking to satisfy the needs for multiple workloads, from providing “As-A-Service” access for small interactive jobs, to supporting cluster-wide jobs that make the full use of multi-GPU and multi-node resources. IBM Storage IBM Spectrum Scale  provides a storage framework with scalability, extensibility, and the enterprise attributes required, including data protection, data tiering, and hybrid cloud integration.

IBM Spectrum Scale is a cluster file system that provides concurrent access to a single file system or set of file systems from multiple nodes. The nodes can be SAN attached, network attached, a mixture of SAN attached and network attached, or in a shared nothing cluster configuration. This enables high performance access to this common set of data to support a scale-out solution or to provide a high availability highly available platform. With businesses creating, analysing and keeping more data than ever before, there is a recognition that the cloud is becoming difficult to manage within organisations. An organisation's underlying information architecture must support the hybrid cloud, big data and AI workloads, along with traditional applications, while ensuring security, reliability, data efficiency and high performance. IBM Spectrum Scale meets these challenges as a scale-out high performance global parallel file system.

We are all very much aware of NVIDIA's DGX A100 which was announced at last years GTC. The NVIDIA DGX A100 features 8 NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs which provides the much-needed fast results that are critical for AI workloads. The DGX A100 is the universal system for all AI workloads - from analytics to training to inference. It also offers the unprecedented ability to deliver fine-grained allocation of computing power, using the Multi-Instance GPU (MIG) capability in the NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPU, which enables administrators to assign resources that are right-sized for specific workloads. Now enterprises can create a complete workflow from data preparation and analytics to training and inference using one easy-to-deploy AI infrastructure.
