Zalman has sent Tweak News one of their latest storage products to check out, a 2.5" HDD enclosure they call the ZM-VE200. This unit works not only as your basic enclosure, but it also features an LCD screen and the ability load ISO files from a virtual drive.

Zalman has taken 2.5" HDD enclosures to the next level with the ZM-VE200. Not only can you use it for storage, you can also load ISO's directly from the drive with the built in virtual ODD feature. The backlit LCD screen is easy to read and simple to navigate, although some basic instructions would have been helpful to include in the package...
...The drive is completely USB powered and you also have the option of using a faster eSATA connection for file transfers. The case is quite durable and should have no problems standing up to normal everyday use. Loading ISO files in ODD mode was quick and reliable every time I tested it, but be sure to create a "_iso" folder on the drive and save your disc images there - otherwise they will not be detected...
...The price on this unit is a bit higher than many 2.5" HDD enclosures, but you also get added functionality that easily justifies the cost. I can see it being a great tool for computer technicians who need access to OS and driver discs - no more hunting for CD's, just load them straight on to the drive and you'll have them all on one portable device.
